Jowat at ProSweets 2025: Safe Adhesive Solutions for Confectionery Packaging: Jowat Sets New Benchmarks for Quality and Sustainability

The ideal adhesive for food packaging must adhere securely to different materials and ensure a reliable connection. At the same time, the packaging must be easy to open for consumers. In light of the strict limits applying to mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOSH/MOAH) that may mi-grate from the packaging into the food, MOSH-/MOAH-free adhesives provide a safe solution. These adhesives have a hydrocarbon content below the detection limit, making them a preferred choice for the primary and secondary packaging of confectionery and snacks.
Jowat is presenting a range of innovative hot melt adhesives based on polyolefin polymers, which apart from meeting the high requirements in the food industry are also optimized for special applications. One standout product is Jowatherm® PO 851.10. This hot melt adhesive facilitates bonding applications with high resistance to cold, which is a key requirement especially for the packaging of frozen products. In addition, this hot melt adhesive also impresses with high yield and a clean application due to the accurate cut-off of the adhesive string at the nozzle—ideal for fast automated production processes.
Another highlight is Jowatherm® PO 851.99 with its outstanding resource-saving characteristics. This adhesive has a processing temperature starting from 99°C, which is well below that of comparable products and makes it the first choice for temperature-sensitive products, such as chocolate and chocolate-containing confectionery. Studies have shown that companies using this adhesive can reduce the energy consumption in their bonding process by up to 45%—an advantage of both ecological and economic significance.
The portfolio of the adhesive manufacturer from Detmold also provides biobased hot melt ad-hesives for packaging. These adhesives are based on renewable raw materials and are characterized by a high biobased content of 20%–50%. The resins used are sourced from by-products of paper production and do not compete with the food industry. Furthermore, only pine wood species originating from sustainably managed forests are being used.
Jowatherm® GROW adhesives are manufactured at the production facility in Detmold certified in accordance with the international standards. In addition, the adhesives meet the strict requirements of FDA 175.105 and EU Regulation 10/2011 for food packaging.
The product characteristics at a glance:
- Biobased content: Jowatherm® GROW 853.20 has a DIN-verified biobased raw material content of 33% (8C183).
- Clean processing: The adhesives facilitate easy and clean applications.
- Resource efficiency: Adhesives containing by-products or consuming less energy optimize the use of resources.
