Leonie Dubbert demonstrates what a career in STEM can look like. She started her journey at Jowat in August 2015 with an apprenticeship to become a chemical lab assistant, gaining experience across all research and development departments. Following her graduation in January 2019, she first worked two months in the quality assurance lab before transitioning to the Research and Development department in March 2019, where she contributed to the optimization of products and processes. Since March 2024, Leonie has been working in Quality Management and has been a point of contact for the ISO 9001 certification.
Leonie’s passion for science is driven by four key reasons: curiosity, discoveries, innovation and progress. Science offers an opportunity to better understand the world around us and to constantly make new discoveries. The process of solving complex problems through logical thinking and scientific methods is particularly fascinating to her. In addition, science promotes technological innovations that can improve our daily lives. She chose a career in science because it is a field characterized by constant change, facilitating continuous learning and personal growth.
Her favorite subject in school was mathematics, closely followed by biology and chemistry. “I’ve always been fascinated by the challenge of finding solutions and making connections that are not immediately obvious,” she says. “In biology and chemistry, there are so many processes that are not visible to the naked eye at first.”
Leonie has a clear message for young women and girls who want to pursue a career in science: “Believe in yourself and do not be discouraged by doubts or stereotypes. Ask questions because science thrives on curiosity. Take every opportunity to learn and develop new skills. Collaborate with others, because exchanging ideas and thoughts can open new perspectives and lead to creative solutions.”
Working in a lab is not only exciting and diversified but it also provides an opportunity to actively play a role in the development of new technologies and innovations. We are proud to have such dedicated and talented scientists as Leonie Dubbert in our team.
